random thoughts – Day 1,450 – (Wednesday) – water and ruffles

Raindrops were falling.
A light rain was falling this morning, with a forecast for heavy rain around 4:00 and a flood watch in effect from 1:00 this afternoon through 7:00 Thursday night. While sitting in traffic on the Bridge Street bridge, there was time to notice through the raindrops on the window just how high the Merrimack already looks. Ugh.

Beyond the bridge, the fancy dresses in the windows of the new shop had been changed since last week. The hot pink and white ensembles had been replaced with the new color scheme of lime green and royal blue, and were nice and bright on a dreary morning. The outfits took my mind off the watery weather for a few minutes, especially when I was puzzling over the items in the green colored windows.

Green frothy ruffles.
There was a ruffle-topped lime green dress that looked like a frothy Shamrock Shake. Next to it was an interesting lime green fluffy piece with long ruffly sleeves and ruffles across the collar bone area, but no actual front, paired with high-waisted pants with a bow accent. Very Vegas showgirl. Most puzzling for Lowell. Great color for Easter, but a bit risqué as presented on the mannequin. What in the heck goes below the ruffles and above the pants? Or are sleeves with no shirt body the latest look? I mean, it covers flabby upper arms. The ruffled collar and sleeves part would be a great costume piece for something, but I already have plenty of closet space dedicated to such items.

Inside the office, we could hear bird sounds throughout the morning. A colleague said it was a dove. Most puzzling. And entertaining when the Prince song “When Doves Cry” got lodged in my head. Was the sound cooing or crying? Can doves really cry? What if the bird was crying because it was stick in ductwork or something? How would we be able to tell? By afternoon, it had stopped.

It seemed to drizzle throughout the day, but there was no heavy rain around 4:00 like was forecast. Maybe the wetness has chosen a different route and we’ll be spared, and I can stop obsessing over the basement. Or maybe that is just wishful thinking and the rain is held up in traffic or something. We’ll see. In the meantime, I’ll be looking online for wardrobe styling for a shoulder ruffle.
