random thoughts – Day 1,448 – (Monday) – mysteries

Unscathed after
the tumble.
The morning began with a Prime delivery left on the top step blocking the door, so that when I opened the door, the box toppled down the steps. It's a mystery to me why the delivery folks think it's acceptable to barricade the door with the deliveries, but they do it all the time. Luckily, my Mod Podge glue, sealer, and finish products (matte and glossy!) were well packed and didn’t suffer from the early morning step acrobatics.

The workday was sprinkled with delays, problems, and issues affecting multiple departments and all stemming from one vendor partner. In my department, we have so many issues with the functions we have to do with this company that every time I hear the name, there is a twinge of PTSD.

When the morning moved beyond the time we usually receive the notification for the marketing review step with the vendor, I figured there was clear potential for a screwy day. As it turned out, at 5:00, I had been on high alert all day waiting, and the issue du jour was still not resolved for me to perform the review for my department. It’s whatever, and the world won’t end.

In the early afternoon it was quiet in and around the remote office. It was the space between the Monday neighborhood noise of the recycling pickup and the later noise of the regular trash pickup. There were fewer sirens that usual, and there had been no sightings or auditory presentations from the back of the house. After realizing that it was a new month, the thought danced through my head that maybe the world’s most dedicated smoker had moved out over the weekend while I was busy doing other things.

A few minutes later, the deep, hacking cough could be heard from the house behind mine. Sure enough, the world’s most dedicated smoker is still around, clad in his high visibility green hoodie, hanging out the window, blowing smoke and coughing hard. I don’t understand it and I’m not sure I want to.

Inside The BungaLowell, there was leftover pizza for lunch. Things were checked off the to-do list, which is a great way to start the week, and a great counterbalance to the vendor aggravation. That gave me brain space to try and analyze why my phone somehow slipped off wi-fi. Again. So annoying. And mysterious.

A few of the ignored
cat things.
Kiki was scarce most of the day, camped out behind the couch. After work, I tried to lure her out from the back of the couch with a new toy that has a little stuffed cloth fish on an elastic on a stick. She backed away like it was a known torture device being waved in her direction. I think it traumatized her.

Kiki doesn’t seem to understand toys and has so far ignored them. She has run from the cardboard wheels with the ball and bell in the center and ignored the catnip infused rope. The cardboard scratch board hasn’t been scratched yet, despite having been rubbed with catnip, but the treats left on it daily disappear. Maybe someday the mystery of the aversion to the toys will be solved and we'll play all day. I hope.

  1. The smoker will not see summer from the sounds of it. What a jerk.
