“Remoted – Hybrid” – Day 727 (Sunday) – random gifts

The random driveway gift gods visited again. In addition to the steady near-daily stream of candy wrappers, water bottles, and cup lids that blow in, there have periodically been other, more substantial gifts. Past offerings include a plastic bow, footballs, basketballs, tennis balls, one-third of a dollar bill, a plastic donut from a kitchen set, a plastic dump truck, a plywood ramp, and others that escape memory. The balls are tossed across the street. After sitting at the end of my driveway for about a week and never being claimed, the plastic dump truck was given to the family who had just moved in next door.

Random go-kart.
This morning, there was a go-kart at the end of the driveway, parked nose first in the snowbank, which is significantly better than it being crashed into the fence. There has been a menagerie of dirt bikes, motorcycles, and trikes in the immediate vicinity, but the go-kart hasn’t been seen before. The best early morning guess was that it rolled out of someone’s yard up the hill, stopping when it hit the snowbank. A pair of black gloves was scattered in the middle of the street.

I didn’t notice it on Saturday, but it was there at 6:45am Sunday morning when Winston went out, and still there at 1:30pm. By 2:30, three neighborhood boys were out front playing basketball, and soon after that, the go-kart had been moved across the street. A gangly boy in an oversized tee shirt, shorts, and crocs, who wore a backpack backwards so the pack was in front, stood on the seat, supervising the game.

By suppertime, the game was long over and all was quiet at the end of the dead-end street. When Winston went outside, the go-kart was gone. The problem of what to do with a random go-kart was solved, but the mystery of where it came from lives on.
