“Remoted” – Workday 39/Day 50 (Taco Tuesday - Cinqo de Mayo)

What a week. Only Tuesday, and it’s been back to back “holidays” this week. First Star Wars Day and now  Cinqo de My-Oh-My. There were no festivities with sombreros, decorations, mariachi bands, or cocktails at this new lame-oh home office, but there was a tasty supper for one.

Just making it up along the way.
Sort of salsa and a black bean
and sweet potato quesadilla.
Sorry, no tacos for this Taco Tuesday, but there was some of the black beans with sweet potato in the freezer from last week and there was mango and a pear in the fruit bowl. With no peppers or lime or cilantro, the mango pear mix doesn’t fit any of the recipes found and the word “salsa” might be considered a bit of a stretch. The meal was a black bean and sweet potato quesadilla with the so-called-salsa of mango, pear, onion, and garlic tossed with lemon juice, honey, and red pepper flakes. There was some concern about the flavors of mango and pear concoction, but it was really good.

It was one of those meals that would have been great to share with someone just to talk about it, but, you know, still very, very, savagely single here. I couldn’t tell you the last time I went on a date if my life depended on it, but luckily, that probably won’t ever be a lifesaving question for me anyway. A much more important and relevant question would be “Do you have any allergies?” and I know the answers to that one.

Work was the usual – special project spurts of busy and a waiting game in between. We had our “new regular” team video meeting and it was fun seeing everyone and finding out what we’ve each been working on. Pre-pandemic, team meetings were around “the altar” – a large cabinet and work surface in the middle of our office. It was named the altar because there is a tendency for a lot of food to appear there and it's a fact that you’ll never starve in our department.

The company Annual Meeting was today, which is usually a formal event with a presentation, and Bank Officers in nice suits are sworn in, and then there is a fancy reception with food. This year, it was a remote event with an 800 number to call and my first swearing-in as an officer will be an online module. Right before the meeting, I received a new batch of work and was sending out loan documents while listening to the meeting on my phone and wearing a hoodie and jeans. It was the most chill annual meeting yet, followed by one of my favorite dinners of the past few weeks. It was a pretty good day, overall.
