random thoughts - Day 2,043 (Monday) - rainy day accomplishment

"Maintenance
break."
It rained. It was the first I sound I heard while waking up, and it felt like the sound of staying in the house. There was an uncharacteristic morning turning on of the TV, where I learned the news of the web services outage on BBC News. The Sunday night TV discovery was the channel lineup is different again, not just from Saturday to Sunday, when four versions of HBO were clustered in the lineup (HD, Comedy, Drama, Latin) but again from Sunday to Monday when there were only two HBO flavors. I detest scrolling through the endless screens, but it did land me on BBC News, so that was okay.

The web services thing impacted a few planned activities and I couldn't continue my chess lessons on Duolingo. By the time the app was back from "Maintenance Break," I had lost my chance to use the double points bonuses from Sunday's night owl and the last Friend Quest. Errrr.

On the adulting front, I was unable to check a couple accounts and set up payments, but I made the phone call (finally) to set up oil delivery. The lady at the oil company was sweet and I learned that the former owner of my house used to send her a handwritten note each fall and she had beautiful penmanship.

One bookcase set.
Perhaps most importantly, time was spent in the soon to be functional guest room. Two bookcases that had been shoved into the closet on move-in day and jammed with books were emptied and hauled out to the living room for auditions. These are massed produced family pieces from my grandmother and a great aunt that are similar but not exact matches. They are the same ones that every family we knew had when I was a kid. In the course of my custodianship, they have served in main bedrooms, offices, guest rooms, and been stuffed in junk rooms with the door shut.

One bookcase is a couple inches too wide to work on the potential walls in the living/dining space, but the smaller one fit on a narrow wall between the desk and the kitchen doorway. I don't love it there and I hate that the space is becoming full of dark brown furniture. Books were set because they fit and without the usual consideration for grouping by genre or author. Those will be battles for another day. The activity freed up closet space to finally get started in the guest room and a three drawer plastic chest with art supplies was set in there.
