random thoughts - Day 2,024 (Wednesday) - fall-ish

It's felt like summer this week and it looks like fall today. A rogue plant that has grown up through a hedge has lost its little purple flowers and grow some reddish berries.

The trees are dropping leaves already. It's not exactly pretty colored foliage and more like dead brown leaves that edge the yard and have blown up  and down the driveway under the carport. It's too soon for the dead drops. We didn't get the color yet. Things are out of order but it's probably due to the weather.

The leaves will gather and I'm not sure what I will do with them. When I was a kid, I remember jumping in big piles of leaves and it was fun until I realized my ankles were filthy from it. After that I never wanted to do it again and even avoided walking in leaves whenever possible. The preferred year-round activity was staying clean in the house and reading books while everyone else was outside getting gross and dirty.

Crunchy stuff.
It was my sister's day off and she came to visit with Mom and me. She arrived in town with pizza from the most beloved Espresso Pizza Fitchburg location, which was the stuff we grew up with and the benchmark for all pizza. It tasted as good as always, except the crust doesn't have the big bubbles like it used to.

After the visiting there was bill paying and other boring adult crap. Yay. I was chilly enough to be wearing a sweater, and frugal enough to not put the heat on yet. I'm going to see how long I can last. And I still need to arrange an account with an oil company. I know who the previous owner used and that will probably be the go-to because I've heard stories of some companies that only deliver to homes where they have service contracts. I think I'm going to miss gas heat for the convenience of not needing to monitor tank volume and have deliveries. It's another new adventure on the horizon.
