random thoughts - Day 1,997 (Thursday) - chillin

The refrigerator bought on Saturday delivered today. A three hour window had been provided (11 am - 2 pm) and the truck arrived at 10:50. In advance of the arrival, there had been a series of text messages and emails with updates. My driver had left the warehouse. I was the 4th stop. In 30 minutes the driver will arrive.

New fridge.
The delivery guy looked at the old refrigerator and seemed surprised I was replacing it. I opened the door and showed him the disintegrating produce drawer, the taped together shelf, the cracks in the inside of the freezer. The old one was rolled out of its space revealing two depressions in the floor from the front feet of the old unit. I cleaned the space while the guys took the new fridge off the truck.

The new fridge is two inches wider than the old one and feels much larger and more useful inside. The shelves have more options for placement and the produce and fruit drawers are squared-off and hold more than the old ones. The freezer feels huge and I can go wild with soup and quiche and pizza slices. It's pretty sweet.

It's not all sunshine and daisies, though. The one little gray cloud with the new refrigerator was noticed as I was putting the food back into it. There is a stripe of sticky tape residue, several inches wide, across the front of the big door. I tried removing it by lifting it off with packing tape with minimal success. When that didn't work, an online search was conducted.

Methods suggested include rubbing various common household liquids, waiting a few minutes, then wiping, sometimes with a cloth with warm water. First, I tried dish soap (without success). Next, I tried canola oil (messier, and also unsuccessful). Peanut butter was suggested, but I haven't tried that yet. The remaining methods require a trip to the store for vinegar and/or Goo Gone. It looks like Friday's entertainment is foretold.
