random thoughts - Day 1,995 (Tuesday) - placing and building

Things are chugging along. A local flooring and carpeting shop was visited to ask about remnants in the odd size of 19 inches by 42 inches for the alcove. I'm waiting on a call back about availability. Hopefully, it will be soon.

Dresser in the alcove.
The knobs were placed on the drawers and the dresser was placed in the alcove with the full knowledge that when the carpet piece is ready it will be moved out to set the rug piece down and then put back.

Despite great care in placing the dresser, a corner hit the left wall and left a small black scuff mark. Then I bumped the right wall and left a black scuff mark there, too. Oy. The dresser looks small in the space, but once something is hung on the wall or something is set on the dresser top it will look less blank.

About the time the dresser was set, the Fed Ex truck arrived with the floating corner TV shelf. The driver left it on the front step next to the door, but still a little in front of the door, which made it a little tricky to get the door open. Luckily, it was too heavy to sail down the stairs when the door skimmed it. The arrival of the shelf bumped the tentative plan of sanding the dresser top mirror for painting.

The box was dragged into the house. I had read the instructions online before ordering it, so it wasn't as confusing as usual. The tool bag was emptied and inventoried and a bunch of drill bits I didn't know I had were discovered. None were the square type needed yesterday.

New assembly project!
The shipping box was unpacked, printed instructions reviewed, and the shelf assembled. It was leisurely and took about an hour. The hard part remains -- finding the studs and mounting the rails to the wall. Kind of dreading that step. Once the rails are mounted, the shelf can be set on it, and then the TV. Then the mid-century console the TV currently sits on can move to the opposite wall near the entryway. The whole thing feels like a long string of dominoes.

Kiki arose from her day under the bed. The door was open and she sat at the screen and made mysterious noises that were not meowing. When I looked at her she ran away. Then she would come back and meow at me and let me pet her before going back to the door. This went on for a couple hours until I closed the door. Once the game was over, she disappeared.
